On our way from Lucerne to Lugano, Switzerland, we stumbled upon the three castles of Bellinzona. Before this surprise, I was literally dreaming in my head, of a vacation to save for a later date - visiting castles around the world. So woah. Let's just say I was beyond excited when I saw these in the sky from the road. I begged Husband for a detour, and fortunately, he agreed, and we were able to explore two out of the three castles. I'm kicking myself in the butt for not seeing the third and grandest castle of them all, Castlegrande, but I took what I could get. Out of everything I saw on the trip, these castles were one of my favorite things. To me, it was so magical, and unexpected, which is the best part. I mean, how often are you driving on the road, and come across castles? Never, where I'm from. So this was a serious treat for me.
The day couldn't have been more beautiful. It was warm, but there was a slight breeze in the air that danced with the tall grass, sprinkled with flowers. As I walked up the windy steps of the watch towers, peered out the windows, felt the grooves of the stone, and laid in the grass watching a little boy fly his kite, I dreamed of a life in a far away world. I placed myself there and tried to imagine what it must have been like back then; what it must have looked like. I wished I had more time. I wished I could be queen. But, then we jumped in our 21st century car, hit the paved roads, and traveled on to our next destination.
