Paris in Pictures - The Palace of Versailles

Here are just a few pictures I captured from our day trip to the Palace of Versailles.  I wish I would have captured more.  It's overwhelming walking through, and incredibly difficult to capture it's extraordinary grandeur, in the midst of mounds of anxious tourists.  The palace was unlike anything I have ever seen before.  {People actually lived like this?}

I imagined that I had been swept back to a far away time, making up fairy tales, as I walked through it's rooms.  I wished I could sit on the red velvet chairs, dine underneath the dim flames of crystal chandeliers, and study every inch of the painted ceilings, while someone told stories.  And after a while, I'd fall into a fancy bed and doze off into a world of royal dreams, only to awake in the morning with a leisurely stroll through the gardens...

A constant theme on my travels was, this yearning to want to go back in time.  To see how these people lived, to bring life to these walls, and to be a part of their stories.  It was almost envy.  But the more I got to thinking - we who live now - are the lucky ones.  We get to see what life is like in the present, and we also, get to glimpse into life in the past.  Can you just imagine what the kings and queens would say if they saw us now?

PLEASE tell me you went in the Gardens, & saw Marie Antoinette house? I agree, it was nothing that I have ever seen before. I could get lost in those gardens forever.. hopelessly daydreaming.

I am glad you got to experience all of the beauty Paris has to offer!

Au revoir!

Love your perspective on how we are the lucky ones getting to see it all! I feel that way when I watch Downton Abbey- like I want to BE there. But it is fun to be able to enjoy the perks of the present & escape to the past! Gorgeous photos!

I've been to Paris twice and have yet to get to Versaille - last time it was sold out - but I vow to experience it someday! When we were in Granada at the Alhambra I wandered those gardens wondering what it would have been like growing up there, living there. Fascinating!
